Oh poor little Munchy, that foot does look sore. Hope that he continues to want to come out of his cage for a fly-around each day and it is good he has an appetite and is eating. I always worry more if they lose their appetite, whatever animal. Good luck with the natural remedies. Hope you see a difference over the next few days and I also hope you’re doing okay too. It’s horrible when our babies have something wrong. x

He's eating, he's drinking, he's keen to come out as soon as the offer's there. Gosh he was so good with the cayenne pepper paste. I got a small amount into his beak, though not sure about under his tongue specifically, but then I rolled a bud of millet through the remaining paste and put it on his dish, and he ate the lot. So hopefully he got a good dose of pain relief. Aww, poor little fellow if it is, skysmum. I'd better do some research on how to manage it. I don't think he's ever really been fat, but I know he does have some issues going on, even though I don't know what because I don't really want to put him through the anaesthetic. At his age I'd rather do what I can to manage his symptoms and give him what quality of life I can rather than lose him to diagnostics. I'll try management over the weekend and then book a vet appointment if there's no improvement.

It's great that he took the cayenne pepper Ira, I hope it gave him a bit of relief.

And if he's willing to eat coated foods then I don't have to keep grabbing him to administer it, which is awesome.

So sorry to hear little Munchy is unwell Ira, his foot does look sore. Glad you could dose him without any stress though and I hope it heals without any more invasive intervention.

It feels a little warmer.
I can't phone for an appointment until Monday and only have Wednesday off next week, though I'm sure that my housemate would take him on a different day if I needed him to, his boss is really chill. But I'll email the vet with the photos as he sometimes responds out of hours.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for the little Munchkins. I find it hard to believe that he is not the youngster I still believe him to be, but a stately older gentleman. Give him a kiss from me.

I know, Hezz, even though I've seen him gradually slow down and know how old he is I still struggle to wrap my head around it somedays. I will do, he won't appreciate it, but I do.

Munchy had a vet visit today, thanks to my wonderful housemate using some of his time-owing to dash out of work for me, and has a follow up next Wednesday, which is fortunately my day off.
He has been prescribed pain relief and some kidney function support. Some of the swelling has been drained too. Vet thinks it's gout.

It's good to have an idea of what the matter might be and to have a plan for dealing with it. Especially if the planned corrective action isn't too invasive.
