Hello all. I've read that you can put cayenne pepper or turmeric in water to relieve pain and/or inflammation. Does anyone know the quantity to put in water? I'm guessing just a "pinch" (whatever that is!)?
Perry is holding his foot up so I'm thinking it would be helpful to give him something. I can't see anything obviously wrong with it. He can curl it around a perch & temperature-wise it feels fine, but he holds it up a lot & leans to one side. It's either a temporary injury or a complication due to his lumps & bumps etc. (No quick vet visit currently available).

I believe it's cayenne pepper for pain and tumeric for inflammation.
I've been making them into a paste to coat Munchy's food, and he's been eating fine. Not sure if he drank any of the tumeric water I offered.

Hoping Perry just has a minor "ouchie" that will heal quickly.

I did get some turmeric though, so I'll try that tomorrow. The paste sounds like it would be quite concentrated so perhaps I shouldn't be too worried about how much I put in the water.

The cayenne pepper doesn’t work too well in water as it doesn’t dissolve and so settles out during the day. You would need to give it a stir every so often. Amount is up to you. I used to use the handle end of a teaspoon to dose Mango’s water. Also, some brands may stay in suspension better than others, so that might be a matter of trial and error. With the pepper try a small amount into a container lid or something similar and drop a couple of drops of water onto it and make into a paste. A little ball straight into the bird’s beak then, good luck with getting it under the tongue. The turmeric is certainly not going to hurt him and may help with his growths.

I noticed the cayenne didn't dissolve though I thought the water changed colour slightly so maybe a bit did dissolve. And yes, it does settle on the bottom so needs stirring. I have just tried the turmeric & that dissolves nicely though I'm not sure what Perry will think of the orange water. As for the amount, I think that even in humans, you have to start off little & then gradually increase. Paste & under the tongue sounds like too difficult a job! Perry seems much the same today, though I did see he went to the 'salt lick perch' which he wasn't able to get to yesterday, though it may have been a freak visit & not an indication of actual improvement.

Poor Perry. I hope the cayenne and turmeric help and that he starts to feel better soon - you don't need any more worries!

It's good that he seems brighter sweetpea. Hopefully he'll start using his foot normally again soon once the treatments kick in.

If he has hurt it in some way, it could take a few days to begin to feel better.

Last night he was worse & stumbling about, but this morning he is brighter again. In fact, I just sat down with a cup of tea to reply to this & looked up to see him swinging about wildly on Moriarty's swing (he's never been on it before)! I rushed over to help him off!

If he has hurt it in some way, it could take a few days to begin to feel batter. Yes, I'm pretty sure there's no terrible injury as he wouldn't be in otherwise good spirits. The only question I have is whether he's sprained it, in which case it will get better in time, or whether it's a lump pressing on it. A vet visit is booked for next week. He has a hard lump that the vet said might impact on his leg at some point but I think it's on the other side.
