I have a beautiful female budgie who’s partner died recently. She is around 3 years old and is not hand tamed. I am not in a position to get another budgie. She is very nervous and does not come out of her cage. She looks alone and sad. She has never been on her own. I would like for her to go to a home with other budgies and have a better quality of life than we can offer her. I’d be grateful if anyone can offer advice Regards, eleanor

I'm so sorry to hear this, unfortunately Glasgow is a bit far for me.
I hope one of our members might reply that lives closer to you.

Sorry to hear about her mate passing. If you’re not in the room, do you put music or tv on?
I hope someone can rehome her for you

I'm so sorry to hear this. How is she doing? I think that there's always a period of readjustment after a loss, for both the remaining buds and humans. How long has she been on her own and has she started to adapt at all? Other members who have been through similar situations may be able to advise on how long the readjustment can take. Low background noise and spending as much time with her as possible will definitely help. If her cage is portable maybe you could move her into another room with you if you will be there for a while? I'm not sure if she's used to being moved around much so she may be a bit scared at first but I expect she would get used to it if you reassure her. Not sure what others think about this? My boys are used to being moved around the house in their cage each day to transfer from sleep to flight areas so I'm maybe just used to doing it. Getting a second budgie is a big step but if you do change your mind the SSPCA have buds of different backgrounds/ages/needs passing through their care on a fairly regular basis. Unfortunately although I'm fairly close to you I'm not going to be able to rehome your little girl, so sorry

willowsmum, does the SSPCA take care in where they rehome budgies to, do you know? Wondering if they might be a good starting point for this lonely little one?

My only experiences with the SSPCA have been when we adopted Willow and Bramble. Although the info they display about the individual birds on the SSPCA website is fairly limited (age, sex, etc) they do try to give a bit of background info and whether they think the bird is best suited to living with a large flock etc. Potential adopters have to complete a fairly detailed rehoming questionnaire and have a zoom call to show the SSPCA that their cage set-up etc. is suitable before they will agree to rehome them. So although they rehome all sorts of animals and they aren't really bird specialists I do think that they do their best to find them suitable homes.

It is good that they put so much effort into making sure. Of course there is only so much they could do to check on people’s intentions.

I wonder if a home was found yet, they haven't be online in a few days.
