Hi everyone it’s been a while and I hope you are doing well. I am worried about Scooby she is looking a bit wobbly and scruffy lately I’m concerned about her balance. She is on her perch but continuously standing on one leg and this morning she fell off Obi our Conures cage which has never happens before. I am not entirely sure of her age she was a rescue I would think roughly 5 now but does this sound like she may be sick? I gave her some Guardian Angel the other day in her water but I don’t think it helped. She is usually very active and all over the place driving Obi the Conure crazy but at the moment content to sit quietly in her cage. I would love some advice or thoughts please. Thank you all in advance.

If she looks wobbly then there is a good chance she might be ill. I'd make an appointment with an avian vet to get her checked out.

The problem is that there are no avian vets near me and I am fearful to go to the regular vet. The last time I did this was with Zippy our old budgie I took her there in the middle of the night I could see she was not well it was a Sydney vet on call. She gave her an injection to keep her comfortable which I think may have killed her she passed away in the car on the home journey

If she is wobbly and not using one of her legs, it is possible that she has some issue with something pressing on the nerve of the leg. You would need a professional’s help to do anything for her, unfortunately.

I found a vet yesterday who has an interest in birds and took Scooby to see him. He thinks she has a cold/respiratory infection he has put her on antibiotics we have to give her 0.05 mls twice a day for 14 days. I don’t think it’s looking positive though. She is still up on her perch which I guess is a good sign but very quiet and finding it tricky to keep her balance. The vet checked her feet and said she grasped on well to him. She has been doing a lot of coughing up seeds today as well. I m praying that she pulls through but very relieved I found this vet.

Hoping the best for Scooby and yourself, Flowers. I hope she will pull through and I am sure you will give her the best chance of doing so.

Put her perches down low and pad the bottom of the cage so that she doesn’t hurt herself if she does fall. You could also leave a perch lying on the floor of the cage for her to stand on if she really doesn’t want to perch. This puts her feet in more of a natural position than sitting on the floor of the cage with her feet flat all the time. Fingers crossed that the AB’s do their job properly.
