They want to keep Charlie in until the Avian vet is back from holiday….next Wednesday. They will do tests once off the antibiotics… They obviously don’t know what is wrong, but they will test for Borna Virus…….Now I am worried and wish I hadn’t looked it up…… Of course I expect it could be other things, I just wish they hadn’t mentioned that 😥

I'm sure the vet is just being thorough, which is a good thing.

It does sound like you have an outstanding vet who will do everything to try to discover what is troubling Charlie. Try not to fret too much!

How is Charlie doing, ladybird? I hope the tests do show up what is wrong with Charlie. I'd not heard of borna virus.

They want to keep Charlie in and probably in the incubator and on antibiotics until the Avian Vet comes back from holiday next Wednesday. She will then decide what happens next. It’s so unfortunate that she is away as the ordinary vets won’t make a decision without her seeing him…..I am obviously very upset at the length of time he will have been in, but nothing I can do about it. He is improving, but it upsets me to see him in the incubator. We are going again to see him today, and again on Monday….

It is very upsetting that she’s away, although they must be reporting back? I’m glad you’re seeing him again today as you’ll have a good idea on his progress from how he seems.

The vet just phoned and said he is doing well, eating and chirping……They do phone me each morning and I appreciate that. I asked could he have some millet and he can, so he will enjoy that today.

Been to see Charlie again. When we went in the room he started bobbing and looked pleased to see us. I put my hand in the incubator and he had some millet from me but wouldn’t get on my hand. He is very nervous, but I expect he thinks I am going to grab him and medicate him. I wonder how he will be when we get him home, I think it will take time for him to settle down and trust me again…….He was talking, I heard him say several things. He definitely seems much better and seems happy. The little Paraleet is still there and they were shouting to each other…….We are going again on Monday…… Will definitely be glad when he can come home, the 70 mile round trip gets tiring..

He looks so good perched there with his disco ball. He probably is a bit "hand wary" if they are catching and medicating him. In the past after I've handled Buddy, he takes about 2-3 weeks to get over it. Once Charlie gets home with you and familiar surroundings, he'll get back to his friendly self quickly.
The trip to and from the vet is long and takes a big chunk of the day but it is good mentally for you both.

It's great news that Charlies is improving. I'm glad he's talking again. He must feel a lot better. It's been so hard on you with the worry and the long drives. Hopefully they won't need to keep him much longer once the vet gets back. Once he is back home, I think he'll settly back in quite easily. He will be so pleased to be back with you.

so glad he is looking and sounding better.. poor little thing. It is hard on you, plus a pain the vet is away, but you know at least he won't be sent home only half better kind of thing.
he will be ok once he is back home.. he will not associate your hand then with anything.. he will just be happy
hopefully once the vet sees him on Wednesday, he can come home. did they say if he has gained more weight?
