My dear little Patch passed in the night and his long struggle is over. He can rest now and also fly free over fields of the millet and sweetcorn he so loved. Fly high, my darling little boy.

Thank you ladybird and lemonora. I am heartbroken, for myself and for Eeyore who has lost his best friend. Patch will ever be the mild-mannered, quiet little chap who taught his flock the joy of foraging sweetcorn. He will always be remembered.

Oh no, I'm so sorry. Poor little Patch. He was a sweet little fellow. It's so sad that he didn't have more time with you and his buddies, but the time he did have was spent in a wonderful home full of love and friendship. How is Eeyore managing without him? Hugs to all of you xx

Thank you, Marianne Marlow, ffiscool and criswell. It's been a tough day today. Eeyore is very unsettled, he's been flying around restlessly, looking and calling for his chum, all day. And I believe all the budgies have felt the loss, they seem to have all knitted together in some way. Hibs and Herman were perched on me earlier on and Eeyore ended up going from my head, to my arm and incredibly, onto my finger. Just in that way alone I can tell he's deeply affected. Herman has been looking after Eeyore and is never long from his side, or close by. I confess, that's made my eyes sting a little.

So sorry about little Patch. Those of us who have the quiet timid little budgies know they have as great a place in our hearts and in the flock as the most loud active budgies and sometimes we tend to watch them more closely. You are already greatly missed, Patch.

Thank you, blueelephant and tweetiepiesmomPatch was popular with everyone and in his quiet way he was a very integral part of the flock. He often led the descent to the floor to conduct the ground-foraging sessions. I really miss him and keep looking for him in the aviary or on the coriander plant. And Eeyore is displaying classic searching behaviour, he misses Patch so much.
