Good afternoon all, just a little question, my male budgie who eats and drinks fine looks like he is breathing heavy when he is on a perch. He looks happy enough when he is feeding and the little female is always grooming and feeding him. They are both in a large Parrot cage and when its a nice day it is wheeled outside so they can enjoy the sunshine, should I be worried about his breathing? Thankyou Sharon

If you can get your lad to an avian vet, I would do so. Respiratory issues need to be addressed.

When you notice him breathing heavy, is just after he's been flying around? Once he's been perching quietly, does he still look like he's breathing heavily? Do you see his tail bobbing? Has he ever been to an avian vet for a check-up? As loz said respiratory problems shouldn't be put off. If you have any doubt, take him to a vet.

Is this fellow overweight? Is this a new thing that you have just noticed or has he always been so inclined? Any wheezing or clicking when he breathes? For short-term possible help, a steamy shower sauna can help open up the airways. Pop him in a small cage, run the shower on full hot, close all doors and windows to the bathroom and leave him in there for 10-15 minutes, but check him every five to make sure he doesn’t overheat.

Just to be very clear, don't put him under the running water, just in the steamy room.
