Hello, I have been puzzling this for weeks. I can't figure if my budgie Teal is male or female. I was sure a male for a while there, as the cere looked to be a pinky mauve, this last week white has appeared around the nares, but it could be a trick due to the color mutation. Other opinions are appreciated, thank you.

Hi Eyulf Having learned my lesson on gendering budgies, it sounds to me like you have a young boy there. What a lovely little lad, and well done for rescuing and hand-rearing him. A lovely act of kindness.

I'm guessing boy, but the photos aren't that clear.

The colour changes in the cere make me think boy. Herman has been cycling through blue/pink/blue for a while and seems now to be settling on blue. His behaviour tells me he is definitely a boy! Eeyore had the same cere colour changes when he was young.

I managed a clearer photo this morning hopefully. Natural light no flash. I tried for a second photo but couldn't get one without Teal either hopping onto my phone or coming up for an extreme close up 🤣 I'm agreeing with boy so far. Teal has taken a liking to Blue yet likes to copy Sky.

Thank you. The confirmation is much appreciated. I can now say with certainty, he's a sweetie and has fit in with Sky and Blue with ease. As Teal is in the same cage as Sky I don't have to worry about certain interactions 😆 Blue has her own cage.

I posted recently that I have hand raised 3 new Budgies. One is 4 months old today the other 2 are 8-10 days older. I'm again having difficulty with gender. This is Boo. This is Zen. This is Dot. Dot is green and yellow pied. Named Dot, as this was the one day old bird and being the smallest was just a little "Dot" I was so nervous to feed due to being the youngest I've ever fed. I hand raised their Mother some years ago she's a pied green and yellow though her green is the darker green like Zen has. Any opinions are appreciated. As I'd love an idea to their gender.

I'm well known for not getting these right but all three beautiful budgies look male to me.
