Hello I’m new here I bought my budgie Gudetama about a month ago from a local pet shop they didn’t tell us much about her except that she is a Female budgie roughly 1 year old. I noticed that she had some build up and crustiness on her cere, I thought right away that she had Scaly Face Mites and bought the Avimec treatment for her. I was going to start treatment right away but hesitated as I didn’t want to harm her is she didn’t have it, so I did some research and came across Hyperkeratosis although I don’t know how to tell the difference between the two. I don’t know what to do I don’t want to treat her for something she doesn’t have in case it hurts her but if she does have mites I want to start treatment as soon as possible as not to cause her any suffering. I wanted to attach picture but I am not sure how. Any advice you might have would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hello and welcome!
I'm not familiar with avimec but a web search reveals it's a kind of Ivermectin treatment. I use S76 ivermectin for my budgies four times a year as a prophylactic treatment for mites. It is perfectly safe. If avimec is a similar treatment, it is a good idea to administer it, even if scaly mites isn't the actual problem here. Do you have access to an avian specialist vet where you are? It would be a good idea to consult them. Hopefully someone will post here shortly with more advice.
