I've not long vacuumed and there's now ten pieces of sweetcorn on the floor. Whistle is responsible for three that I saw.

Wow! I was looking out the kitchen window and spotted a couple of dandelions growing in the lawn. I got terribly excited!
How things have changed. I remember when I had a plague of dandelions in my lawn and was cross about it.

I was looking out the kitchen window just now, eating my lunch. I watched a magpie patrolling the lawn and cast my eye over the compost bins down the other end of the garden. I found myself thinking that the warmer weather means that I can turn the compost without disturbing the slowworms that wintered there. No sooner was the thought finalised when the magpie pounced, a young slowworm in its beak. The birb eventually dispatched the hapless lizard and flew off with it.
I was left thinking about how much I would not choose to be a slowworm, given the choice.

Aw poor Slowworms.
Reminds me - last week we went to see my mum and in her front garden she has some flower pots with a little stick in each.
A magpie flew over and pulled each stick out, feeling it's weight and then dropped it.
I think it was looking for nest materials.
I told my mum and she said it happens a lot but she thought it was squirrels!

I didn't know that Magpies were kept as pets! My former gf, how do I put this? She danced to the beat of a different drum. I've seen vids of rescue magpies but they tend to be released back into the wild. They are actually lovely, friendly birds if you get a youngster that needs help.

Urgh! I'm currently writing a supporting statement for an application to be a GCSE examiner, and I'm not enjoying it one bit. It shouldn't be this difficult. I've manged to work at it for 45 minutes and I have most of a first draft so I am now entitled to a break. I'm pleased with the progress as I've spent the rest of the week thinking about starting to write it. I shall now go and see what the budgies are up to. That sounds much more fun.
A nicer part of the application process is that I've been in touch with my project supervisor from my previous job and she's kindly agreed to act as my referee and it's been nice catching up with her.

loz - I've never wanted a pet magpie but I have been know to say that a pet crow would be nice, or at least a semi-tame wild crow that I could interact with. We have crows at our allotment which I feed, and I can work quite near them as long as I don't look at them. I don't hold out any hope of taming one of them I'm also glad you got Mr Hibs.
