I'm thinking of getting a new cage for Tweetie Pie and Buddy. Their current cage is OK but a pain to clean. Since being on this Forum, I've read that many of you seem to have a Hagen Vision cage. I've been looking at the Hagen Vision model L01. Does anyone have that? The ad says you can just disconnect the bottom bit from the wire cage and it snaps on and off easily. Is that true? It looks like you need to add a ladder or two to help them climb down to their food - true? What are the pro's and con's of the cage? Since it is expensive, I don't want buy it and then find out its unsuitable.

The clear part of the base unclips from the bottom part for cleaning. I found it somewhat tricky to assemble the first time but after that it was easy because I knew what I was doing. I like that the doors are next to each other and can make a landing platform, but they only do that when opened inwards. You don't need a ladder to help the birds to the floor if they can fly, as long as there's plenty of space for them to get onto a perch. But you might want to add one to give them the choice. It's a narrow cage. I don't use mine regularly. Marianne Marlow as more experience with them than me.

I have the MO1 and I really like it. It’s very easy to disconnect the top from the bottom. It’s probably best to have a ladder down to the feeders although Charlie jumped down and climbed back up it’s a very easy cage to clean out and I recommend it. The two doors opening are really good, I have one in and one out…if you want to have them as landing perches, I have found that a peg keeps them in position…..I think Marianne has the LO1 ? It’s bigger.

I have a vision cage TPM, when I bought mine 9 years ago I'm 99% sure it was the LO2 model which is a bigger version of the LO1 MODEL. But they don't seem to make it anymore the LO2 model is now the tall vision cage which I don't like. This is the one I have:- I loved it when I bought it at first, I only had ONE bird then, but when I look at the vision cage costing £108 on Amazon, and the Hamberley cage which I bought for under £80, it's a no brainer. Im not saying the Vision cage isn't a good cage, but the cage is designed that the feeding dishes go on the cage floor, which non of my birds ever used, so I then had to place dishes around the cage which then takes up space. I'd say take your time and make sure you choose the right cage. The double door of the vision cage is designed so that the landing platform is INSIDE the cage, but, if you put the front grill on (it comes in 4 separate sections) the opposite way, the landing platform is on the OUTSIDE of the cage. Like this:-

I have the vision cage and upgraded to the hamberley to give the boys more room. We call the vision 'the bungalow' and the buds go in it when they visit my brother's on holiday.
In terms of cleaning I find the vision an absolute pain. The plastic gets mucky and you have to man handle the whole cage into the sink. The bigger cage you can just reach inside and clean. Cutting paper to fit the floor is also a nuisance.
If you have the space, go big. You really won't regret it!
One thing the vision does excellently though is contain mess. The design really works to stop feathers and seed casings flying out all over the house.

I have the MO1 , so smaller and in my opinion just right for one bud. I don’t find the plastic gets dirty at all really, but then I just have Charlie in it. When we have removed the top ( and Charlie stays in it). We just empty the mess into the bin…then spray the bottom and give it a good wipe. I don’t use the wire tray for him to stand on, I have it at the bottom and paper on top of it…..I cut paper to fit in batches about once a month……. That’s a very good idea about turning the front section of cage round, so the doors are better for landing on……it’s an error on the makers of the cage I think! Pegs work , but the doors are definitely wrong I think.

jellybean I didn't know that the landing platform was designed to be inside the cage. Mine use it a lot (It's facing outwards), it suits them well. Regards to cleaning the cage, it can be a pain to clean, so I guess the hamberley would score much higher on that, plus the vision is now mega expensive. When I bought my first one it was £40, now they are £90-100 each as I replaced mine in the last couple of years.

Here is a picture of it Marianne, the way it is designed, which I think is silly:- It was Karen at NBC who suggested turning the front the opposite way so the landing platform was outside, which I hadn't even thought of. Yes, it has certainly shot up in price, I think mine was around £40 too, but I bought the table to go with the cage making it a hit more expensive. But, I'm glad I kept mine even though I have the Hamberley, because it's the cage I take the boys to the vet in whenever they need to go, and the vision cage also let's them outside on the balcony when the weather is good as the Hamberley is too big. So it's come in handy.

This is just nuts, as they have obvious little places for the budgies to stand on when they are faced outwards. So weird.

Turn it the other way and the platforms sit flat on the outside Marianne.

I don't have a Vision cage but I use this as a platform outside of the cage door: It's from The Natural Bird product Co and its original use is a perch on the top of the cage. I had it modded by Karen and Darran and it is mounted horizontally instead of vertically, as you can see. It is very popular with the budgies and the chocobo.

I have some of those too loz, but the hagen vision isn't really strong enough to support heavy perches. It would work in the doorway of the IMAC cage though..

I have one door open and one closed…….I use a clip like the one shown, or an ordinary wooden peg works the same…..So no need to turn the front of cage round.
