Hi,
I think my budgie's sick. She's trying to hide it but I realized that she was acting strange. She doesn't play with her toys much anymore and drinks a lot of hot water and looks very fluffed up. Also, she can't stand properly and stumbles when she walks, dragging a wing behind her. Her droppings have undigested seeds in it and are quite green and watery. This morning, when I opened the cover, I found her on the floor of the cage and put her back on a bar. I'm not sure if I should take her to the vet ; I don't have a bird carrier and also, I've never taken any of my budgies to the vet before. What should I do?

You already know the answer to this question. She sounds very sick and you need to find a way to get her to an avian vet.

A friend of mine told me her budgie sort of had the same illness. She said she fed it some dark liquid but can't remember if it got better or not. I'll see if I could take my budgie to the vet

With the symptoms you have told us, your budgie definitely sounds Ill and as Marianne has said , it needs to see a vet. Never give it anything unless it is prescribed by the vet……..Do you have an Avian vet in your area? Or ask an ordinary vet to see your budgie if not……..Also they could maybe help you out with a small carrier to take him/ her in. Please try and help your little budgie as soon as possible, it might be in pain…….

Then use a cardboard box with a few small holes punched into it for air. The bird definitely needs a vet.

Alright, I've taken her to the vet (I took her in her nesting box because she was so sick, she couldn't get out) and they took her away to give her oxygen and said she had trouble digesting food and was ill for a long time but just wouldn't show it. Finally it got so bad that she couldn't bare it and showed it which was when she starting acting strange. I had to go home with her still in the hospital. Later on, they rang up and talked about her. The result? My poor little birdie sadly passed away. Rest in peace little Laila
