I noticed a couple of days ago that Sam had a little bit of red on his forehead just above his cere, I thought maybe it was simply a new feather coming through but today I saw that it was blood and that there was a fresh bleed that has now stopped. He has been absolutly fine eating and drinking as normal and is chirping away now very pleased with himself for 'taming' my hand, little does he know that I have tamed him to get on my hand with only a minimum of biting. The photo's do look a bit dramatic but that is because I cropped them before posting. Edited to say the blood has dried now.

I cannot seem to zoom in on your photo to see the site of the bleeding.

Marianne Marlow I was able to right click on the photo and select the option "open in new tab". It then was full size so I could see it better. Sorry I don't know enough to offer an opinion.

Thanks, that worked. Normally I just click it and it enlarges. To me it just looks like a pin feather that's bled a little. There's no question of it being an injury inflicted by the other budgie, I most sincerely hope and trust?

Thanks Marianne. He did loose a little feather from his head a but there was no blood on that, I guess it is all part and parcel of them being more active in the cage now as well.
The boys don't fight Lozhinge just a bit of play fighting anyway and I don't think it was caused by that, most of the play fighting seems to be pushing and squarking lol

I'm glad they keep it friendly! My budgies have little altercations which sometimes sound blood-curdling but there's never any injuries (except maybe pride).

Oh yes, defiantely hurt pride lol. They are still young and flexing their wings feathers, which has been lovely for me in the hot weather as it is like having an extra fan ! I haven't got any millet at the moment and can't get any for over a week so training as had to move on with just my finger/hand, needless to say there is much nibbling ranging from 'oooh look something new to try' to 'Ahha something to bite'. Heyho onwards and upwards.

He looks a very handsome and slightly fluffy little chap. My guys are similar, with definite show bird genes and they seem quite prone to broken pin feathers on their heads bleeding from time to time. It can look quite dramatic, but as long as it stops quickly it's not been a big problem for them. Trouble is it takes an age to moult out the bloody feathers in my boys so they look like utter scruff bags for months!

Hi Blueelephant, yes they are around 16 weeks now and still coming out of there first moult I think. I remember my other budgie I had a few years ago always looked really scruffy until the new fluffy anf non fluffy but very pretty feathers came through. Right now Sam has a tail feather that is ready to fall out while Olly - who is grey - lost one a couple of weeks ago. Olly is older but only by a few days and now has a grown up tail lol. The breeder I got them from does show budgies, he had some fabulous white ones that look a little haughty which I find funny, so I dare say my two have a bit of a Diva about them. I love them but do worry about them too...as a friend of mine says I am a bit of a worrier
