I am wanting to change the wallpaper that is in my birds room. The paper I was going to order says the material is vinyl...I had already ordered a sample and no smell on it so not sure if this is safe..?? Would be put up using wallpaper paste.....the birds can't rip/eat the wallpaper anywhere. Or should I use paint (would prefer paper but ok with this if safer) if so, can someone tell me what paint to use..??

Sorry nobody has been on to answer yet. You say your buds don’t or can’t peck at the paper so it should be fine. As for paint, I know you can get paint that doesn’t smell so that should be fine too…… Hopefully someone will be along soon to help you better.

I recently painted the inside of the house. Ordinary emulsion for the walls and ceiling doesn't smell and even satin gloss is relatively odorless. I just kept the birbs out of the affected rooms for at least 24 hours after I finished painting and ensured there was as much ventilation as possible. Can't help with wallpaper - I didn't even consider it, not with a kakariki loose in the house.

I would think the wall paper would be ok especially since it doesn't smell. Is it self adhesive or will you put it up with paste? If using paste, check the smell on it and ask if its water-based. If it has a "paste-like" smell its more than likely to be ok. Keep the birds out of that room for several days until it dries - it takes longer to dry than paint. Make sure you get the edges and corners stuck down tight so the birds won't be tempted to grab it.
Hope it works out and you love it!

Can’t comment on the wallpaper side of the question, but as long as the paint is rated low-VOC it is safe to use around the birds, although I would still take them out of the room while the painting is happening and for perhaps a week later just to allow any smell to dissipate. Most water-based paints these days are low-VOC, just check the particular brand you may use.
