Hi all. I was just starting to relax regarding Arthur's health after the last vet visit and now suddenly, he has a weird poo Or rather, a lack of poo. This is the only one that has looked like this so far today, although there was one that looked like this yesterday and maybe two or three that looked in between this and perfectly normal. He is on Calorad (for weight loss and liver support) and in the middle of diet conversion from seeds to pellets, but I'm not sure if either of these are the source.
I'm thinking that the Calorad may be causing him to eat less? So he might have a poo-less poo? He's been happy and singing all yesterday and today
Any thoughts?

In case you haven't looked up Calorad on the net to get some background info on it, here's a link you might find useful: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CaloradHow much is he getting? Is it liquid that you add to his water or is it solid that you add to his food? You might ask the vet if you can start him on a half dose and as his tolerance builds up, work him up to the full dose. The poo doesn't look too bad to me but I would worry that he's not poo'ing as much and that he's eating much less than normal. Hopefully someone can give you more insight.

tweetiepiesmom Thank you for the link. There's so little information about calorad available and almost all of it is regarding human weight loss. He is getting 1.2 mL per 8 oz of water. His AST levels were high according to the vet as well as his weight (42 g) which prompted the Calorad. It's a liquid supplement and we've been putting into his water. He has been on it since August 4th and had been doing fine with it, as far as I could tell. I might give him fresh water just for the evening and plan on calling the vet Monday. In addition, apparently Calorad has aloe vera which can work as a laxative. I'm not sure if that would be playing into things at all. And he might be eating/pooping slightly less than he was prior to the vet visit, but we were feeding him too much in the first place, according to the vet, and it has been a gradual decrease with the food ratio I think. For some reason, I feel like he's been pickier about his food on cloudy days, quickly going to millet when offered as a little treat but not wanting to eat his pellets. On sunny days though, he seems more than happy to just have his pellets! Is that crazy?

If it only the odd poop that is not right I wouldn’t be too concerned, especially considering the changes being made to his diet. But … it couldn’t hurt to discuss with your vet. Perhaps email the photos through for an opinion.

Hezz that is a great idea. I will call the vet tomorrow morning and see what they say and hopefully get an email address I can send the photos to. Thank you!
