Things always seem to happen Saturday night and no vet available for 36 hours minimum. Hope today is calmer and you all get a chance to recover, sweetpea Or a bank holiday weekend...

Yep. Double prize for a BHW 🙄😞 I had that myself with Mr Hibs and his blocked nose last weekend. Things always seem to happen Saturday night and no vet available for 36 hours minimum. Hope today is calmer and you all get a chance to recover, sweetpea Or a bank holiday weekend...

What a weekend you’ve had sweetpea. You must be shattered. Really hope that you have a less worrisome night tonight and can catch up on your sleep. It only takes a couple of days of disturbed sleep to make you feel absolutely done in and feeling unable to think without it hurting (or maybe that’s just me?). Mental and physical exhaustion together is not fun. Take care of yourself.

Last night I could barely keep my eyes open - the feeling reminded me of sitting in lecture halls, trying to concentrate on a lesson! Not the best state to be in if an emergency hits...

I hope you are all ok today @sweatpea and that you've had a more restful night on Sunday. How are Lennie and Perry doing today? So far, so good. Perry was very subdued & sleepy yesterday but I wondered if he was trying to catch up on lost sleep. He seems a little better today. Lennie is behaving as normal. The only problem is that when I let Moriarty in for them to have a chat, Moriarty is intrigued by Lennie's weird stump of a tail (cornflour/blood encrusted & curled at the end) & wants to play with it, so I have to supervise visits. I have booked a home vet visit for two weeks time (earliest I could get for a not-quite-emergency appt). Thinking of the amount of blood loss &, in particular, one enormous clot that Lennie dropped, I wonder how large a hole he actually has & will an activity 'reactivate' it. I assume that the longer we go without any blood loss, the more chance it will heal naturally.

Hoping the best for Lennie and for Perry.
And that you get properly rested, Sweetpea!

I managed to get some photos of Lennie's stumpy tail. By chance I got one of Moriarty eyeing it up... Here is a close up of it, after extensive preening. It's hard to work out what actually happened...

It does, doesn't it?! I think it's those shorter tail feathers that got saturated with blood & then cornflour. During the process I probably bent them too. I think it would be better if they were trimmed but I'm not going to wave any scissors around him...

I'm glad everyone is doing ok. I should think Lennie's tail will heal up naturally. There is probably a good scab underneath the feathers.
Moriarty looks very mischievous in the background - he really wants to play with Lennie's tail.

I lucked out.... the vet was in the area so was able to visit today.
She cleaned up Lennie's feathers & was able to see that it is completely healed from where the tail feathers came out. Phew!
All hail to the great god Cornflour!

On a recent 'Ask the Vet" webinar, I heard that budgies do regenerate blood loss very quickly. Good news - bad news kind of thing. After the vet visit, it sounds like he is on the mend.
