Can I ask for all you wonderful knowledgeable members to share your thoughts on this please? What with the UKs cost of living crisis, we are having to curb our spending on energy meaning lowering the thermostat and putting on another jumper or blanket. However.... ... what about Nubby? Sooo...was wondering if I could get some sort of bird heater? Found this online: Reptile Heat Lamp Heater Guard Hanging Birds Cage Heater with Anti-bite Iron Tube Pet Safety Heat Lamp Shade for Parrots, Lizards, Turtles (100 Watts) amzn.eu/d/2EKwmMjWhat do you guys think? Or have any of you had any experience with this? To any new members, please do not mention those'snuggle huts' as they kill birds. Many thanks!

I agree with TPM in that if you can handle the temperature inside the house then the birds can as well. Remember that they are desert birds where temps plummet once the sun sets.

I agree with TPM and Hezz, to expose birds to extra heat would probably do more harm than good. Nature is a wonderful thing, so despite being small, birds are very well insulated.

That's REALLY interesting guys thank you!
I think I was concerned as he hasn't got any other bud to snuggle up to. But he is not in any draft and the room temp as far as I'm aware doesn't go below 18 degrees so think that might be alright?
I mean its not as if we wont have the heating on at all but thanks for getting back to me with your thoughts, I really appreciate it!

Yes, 18C (64F) should be fine. I like the house cooler when I sleep so I turn off the heater. During winter it does get down to 18C and the budgies have been ok with that.

Sam, single figures, temperature-wise inside the house would even be okay. We had a run of 10 oC, sometimes down to 6-7 oC this winter and all birds actually enjoyed it, I think. They were certainly more lively and noisy.

My house never even gets down to 10 degrees, (can't remember how to do the little 'o' !!) my birdies have always been okay. The lowest I've had I suppose is 17 .

The only time my lot have been bothered is when it's hot and they've flown around. Cold they just fluff themselves up a bit during their less active moments, but they all do that anyway when they're having their afternoon snoozy time.
As long as he has plenty available to eat to keep up with any extra energy expenditure from the temperature drop I'm sure he'll do fine. The tiny wild birds make it through the winter in all sorts, after all! And they have far less luxury.
