So, will soon be buying a budgie, potentially two (due to working 2 long shifts a week) don't want to get one and it be lonely on my two days in work...
If I buy two they'll be hopefully young brothers from the same breeder..
I have owned one before and got him tame by using the process mentioned in the first pinned post.. and patience.. a few years down the line I got him a pal.. the second bird never took to me but I didn't mind so much as it was nice to see them interact and I still had a strong bond with the first..
My question is what is the method for taming when you have a pair from the get go? Work with the more confident one? Follow the same process with the hand following in the cage?
or would a single bird manage ok for two days out of 7 without my company?
The other option would be a single bird and taking him into work with me with a set up there for him too but that may cause stress I was thinking

A lot depends on the individual personalities of the birds. For taming two together there is usually one more bold than the other and you can use that to your advantage with the more cautious getting to see from a distance that you are safe to be around. For this to work, a male and female is not recommended as the hen will most often be telling the male to keep away from you. You will need a bigger pocket of patience working with two new birds, but if the breeder is one for a hands on approach, you may not have any worries as they will most likely come to you being confident around humans.

Personally I have found it hard to train my two, 8n fact I had to stop because I was getting frustrated and obviously the birds could tell. I also have a tremor so I don’t have steady hands anyway. Leaving them alone for two days is something I wouldn’t do and to be honest if you can get them into work and they have a safe place I would take them. They will be unsure and grumpy the first time but probably end up loving it too !
Edited to say that my two, once they got settled absolutely loved being in a car. They were in a travel cage as we went to the vets but the cage was on my lap and they found the whole journey fascinating 🙂
