I had an email today from PayPal saying someone I’d never heard of was requesting £999.99 for a voucher express gift card I’d bought. Firstly I hadn’t but the amount was weird as who would not just found it up if they were buying a gift card.
got onto PayPal as it showed as pending. got it cancelled.
the email had also put in a ‘free phone’ phone number to call to cancel. So I think the sim was that you’d call the number which no doubt was like £30 or whatever a minute.
so watch emails etc coming in.

I also got an email from PayPal saying there was a pending charge of $500 from a store that I never shop at and I should click the link or call the number in the email to verify it. I just opened my Papal account and looked. There was no such charge pending.

I never click on links in emails, I always open the website for my service provider and check for whatever the email might be referencing.

What an odd scam. I never ever click on links in emails.
I get fake paypal ones all the time. When you hover over the address or link, it's usually pretty obvious if they are genuine.

I didn’t click but went to PayPal and it showed pending.
But I think a lot might have called the phone number as it 0800. That’s where the money is.
