Oh dear, this does sound rather stressful, I can see it would be a really hard decision to know what is for the best ladybird Buddy is a lucky little bird though. He is either going to stay with an owner that really cares about him, or go back to a breeder who sounds really good. If you do decide Buddy will be happier elsewhere then try to think of the fun he is going to have, and maybe in the future when the time is right there could be a new little one that will be incredibly lucky to find a home with you, and will fit right in.

Marianne we do only want one budgie, but I feel you need to get that bond with them so they don’t feel lonely.. I have plenty of love and time to give one. I am still hoping that Buddy will decide to trust me, but we are not making any progress yet. Charlie was our sixth budgie and all very different but all tame, some talked , some didn’t say much.

I hope he does decide to trust you too. Are you able to hand feed him anything? If so I'd work on that. Does he have a favourite toy?

It’s so hard as you don’t know what to do for the best.
I might have said it on a different thread, but Bailey, who became very humanised, didn’t come out of his cage for about a month after I got him. When he did, he’d only land in a few places, other than his cage. He could see me in the kitchen (even once he was out and about), as it was off the lounge. He wouldn’t go with me, but called for me. He was too scared to leave the lounge, but loved to sit with me and talked nineteen to the dozen, not as good and clear as Charlie
Only you can decide, but Bailey was a prime example of a scared budgie for ages. Never did fly to my finger if he was out in a picture frame or I called, but would land on my head. If he was near me or on me, he’d often go onto my finger. Then he’d sit there if I sung, and I can’t sing!

ladybird I think I understand your situation better now and why a larger cage and two budgies wouldn't work for you. I had my Tweetie Pie for about 4 months before I decided he needed a birdie friend. Like others have said, give it more time and keep doing what you are doing. Good luck!

Just keep putting it in his cage everyday at the same time. What veg/fruit did the breeder feed him? Offer the same thing maybe at the same time of day as the breeder fed it to him. Does he like millet? You can sprinkle millet over it to see if he'll take a nibble while eating the millet.

Also, it seems budgies take to herbs better than other things. Depending on what the breeder says, you could try dill, 'grassy looking herbs". Does your local grocery store sell wheat grass? That was the first thing other than seeds that Tweetie Pie ate.

My buds love fresh basil, mint and thyme. Rosemary was all the rage for a while, then suddenly, it was meh. Same with sweetcorn. Salad toppers, sprouting & lentil varieties, are very popular. Same with broccoli & spinach. Also, orange Bell pepper - especially the seeds! They like apple, too. It helps when there's a whole flock trying stuff out!
