Hi all, new here and hoping for some help. Our beautiful Luna is about 3 years old (we rescued her) and we have never been able to identify what mutation she is and we would love to know. She is mainly yellow, with olive markings, she has grey or cinnamon cheek patches and black eyes. Thanks in advance for any help. Anna

Luna has the "beautiful" mutation!
Someone will be along eventually with something more helpful, I hope!

Some kind of cinnamon recessive pied is as close as I could get!

Hard to tell with the cheek blobs being mostly white. Can't quite tell if the top parts are grey or just diluted because of the cinnamon.
So either Grey green cinnamon recessive pied Or Olive green cinnamon recessive pied
From what I can tell

Not sure that HE is cinnamon or dilute; I think more likely dilute and agree with Ira’s suggestion of grey-green. Can you tell us what colour you see the dark patches on his wings being, grey or brown? Being a recessive pied, his cere will always stay that solid pink, not developing into the typical “blue is boy” cere of most males.

I think the dark patches on the wings are brown. I am quite shocked that she could be a he, how can you tell the difference between the male and female pied recessive? The cere is actually quite a dark tan at the moment rather then the colour that appears in the photo (maybe bad lighting), would that make a difference?

The camera really can lie when it comes to budgie ceres. A boy is not going to get a brown cere, so sorry if you were totally confused. *head-slap* Male recessive pied ceres will usually be a solid pink whereas the females will be either tan-brown or a pale baby-blue fading to white around the nares. I’ve just now had a look at your second photo where the chain is in front of her cere and can see the tannish colour you mean. I don’t know enough about the genetics to know how the cinnamon gene affects the dark factors or the grey but I do know that it is a diluting mutation so she may well be an olive green rather than grey green cinnamon recessive pied.

I'm still thinking cinnamon due to the pink feets

I'm still thinking cinnamon due to the pink feets Wouldn’t that be due to being recessive pied, anyway??

Recessive pieds have pink footsies, yeah. My only cinnamon is also a recessive pied. And only Indie has grey feet, I can't remember which of his mutations makes them grey.

anna80 has said she looks to be cinnamon, ie brown markings. That’s good enough for me.
