The day for releasing my two new boys, Prothall & Mhoram fast approaches - this Friday! Unlike previous introductions, all involving a singleton bird joining the flock, I have something of a concern in the back of my mind. How will two independent and self-reliant flocks feel about each other? No one can answer that question ahead of time, not with any certainty. All I know is, Friday will be interesting. Assuming it *is* this Friday ... Prothall & Mhoram spent another night in their cage last night. Thankfully! However, what happens if they refuse their cage and decide to spend Thursday night on the tiles? Not ideal. Two strategies come to mind. 1. Delay Release Day until the day after they next spend the night in their cage. 2. Let nature take its course. Open up the bedroom on Release Day and see what happens! Naturally, I am hoping that the Naughty Twosome are good boys on Thursday night so that I can control the introductions in the usual way and there's no delay in starting the process but if they are naughty, what then? Speculation, comments and laughter at my plight are all welcome

Having only introduced singletons myself, I can't say. But usually my single bird is keen to interact with the rest of the flock, whilst the group is more wary, at least in my flock. So perhaps with two that eagerness will be a little lessened as they already have company with each other, and the two groups can just mingle at a pace that they're all content with? Maybe. They're all so individual I never know how it's going to go down.

As you've said, you'll not know until you try it. A single budgie might be wanting to be a part of a flock but your two are already a flock. They may give the gang a cold shoulder or they may be curious about the others. Waiting to see what happens.

A pair will be just as excited to meet everyone else as a singleton. That is my guess anyway!
In terms of your suggested second option of just opening the bedroom and letting them get on with it, that depends entirely on how willing you are to risk spending a night with an entire flock of budgies in your bedroom π

I think youβll be fine, the newbies will be joining a large group which is so much easier, I think they will stick together initially and gradually mingle in with the others π€

I suspect blueelephant may be correct, seeing how the downstairs flock keeps trying to climb the stairs.

The thought that the entire flock will relocate to my bedroom occurred to me. I frightened myself pretty thoroughly

Just imagine if Chocobo stays in your bedroom too, you might wake up with her on your forehead staring down at you!

The most I have introduced to a flock is 4 Colin, Daisy, Billy and Iris came together and still act like a mini flock at times and hang out together.

Release Day for Prothall & Mhoram has been moved up, hopefully tomorrow! The boys are very healthy plus I know the previous owner's set-up and so feel very confident there will be no issues. Other events from today have dictated this to be necessary

Sounds like the geo cage is needed for new residents π

skysmum the question is just, how many new budgies is the geo needed for? π€£ edit- I've found the other thread. I'm almost disappointed it is only one π€£
