I bought some Haith tonic food for the boys and they pretty much ignored it the first two day I put it in so I decided to leave it in one night. Olly, it must have been him as he loves wheat, had eaten a few bits of wheat but that was that. Today I put it in the cage again to tempt them and Olly looked into the dish, looked at me and then backed off a bit. He then stared at me with grumpy eyes and I just knew he was thinking it’s not green and it’s not wet. I have explained, because budgies understand every word we say, that he can have some green stuff later but he just carried on staring at me. Meanwhile Sam is doing his own thang and ignoring it from the other side of the cage 🙂

That sounds like my Gurgeh & the failed dried egg food experiment from yesterday.
I have never had budgie jump on me & demand "proper" food before. Dogs, yes ... budgies - no.
I would persevere. Haiths is decent food and Fussy Buds will come around!

Hehehe. As I type Olly just gave it another cursory look ! I know it can’t be fed every day but if it hasn’t been touched today I will leave it in over night again.

Forgive me if I haven't been paying proper attention but is there a reason you are using the tonic version instead of the standard seed mix? Apologies if you have already explained this elsewhere!

I also wondered that. I have the tonic seed but I only used to give is to. Charlie once a week and remove it at night….and the same with Buddy who also loves it. It smell of aniseed

I use haiths tiptop which has a small amount of tonic seed in it along with the usual budgie stuff like millet and canary grass seed.
But I wouldn't feed them just tonic seed on it's own every day.

They have Haith seed all day and the tonic seed, which is in a separate dish, I will give them every few days. The only reason I am going to leave it in the cage tonight is to try to get them to eat some. I did wonder if it is better to take the usual seed out once a week say and put the tonic seed in their normal seed dish but I know they can’t have too much of it so I am not sure if that is a good idea.

Different story here, tonic seed out once a week for ten mins only, they hoover it up

Like Marianne Marlow I buy Haith's tiptop seed which has tonic seed added to it and Dexter eats all of it. If they don't go for the separate dish of tonic seed you could just add a sprinkle to their regular seed.
