Hi, I have done a search and any information about baby corn is a few years old so I thought I would just ask to make sure nothing has changed ! Can I give the boys baby corn and does it need to be cooked or can they have it raw ? Ta muchly in advance.

I give it raw, either clipped up or sometimes cut into rounds. I’ll also make a veggie chop and add some in. My buds will eat it any which way.

I also feed it raw, baby corn or on the cob.

insert code here I’ve emptied the seed dish and put a mix of parsley, broccoli, mange trout and baby sweetcorn in to it, all chopped up into small but not really small pieces. The boys went to the other side of the cage and Sam is still making his displeasure known. Ollie listened then started preening himself. They have had their breakfast so won’t starve but I am interested to see how long it takes them to inspect the fresh food ! They are picky eaters and I cant get them to eat fruit, although I am still trying, and it seems that apart from sweetcorn fresh food must be green. Do I need to worry about their dislike of many fresh foods or just let them get on with it ?! I should add that their favourites are parsley, especially the stalks, and broccoli but only the ‘buds’. I love them to death but they are little buggers at times 🤣
edited to add that are those fruit ‘balls’ any good . They are made by Lefeber.

I’ve given in and they now have seed in one side and some fresh stuff in the other. Ollie did almost make it down to have a proper inspection of the fresh stuff but changed his mind !

Sprinkle some seed over the veg, especially if you wet down the veg that isn’t naturally moist, things like your broccoli, or leafy things.
And no, just persevere with your veg feeding; consider sprouting either some of the birds’ seed or human food grade seeds for sprouting for them as well. These usually go down well.

I also give them baby corn raw and they love it But the funny thing is that Elsa shreds the whole thing into pieces scattered all around while Homer eats each tiny little kernel as if it’s a real big corn on a cob 😁

Thanks Hezz and Lemonora. I’m still learning the budgie laws…as set by the budgies !

Another budgie rule that only budgies know and will never tell you (you have to work this one out for yourself) is how to serve up their veg. Some like little bits and lots of them while others prefer chunks of veg so they can bite of their own individual bits, eat a tiny bit and throw the rest around to wherever they can get it to. Another version of how lemonora’s two eat their corn.

Hehehehe, have to say they did both have a go at the baby corn I clipped to the side of the cage yesterday but didn’t eat much so I will try chopping it into small pieces next time so they can make a mess then stare at me until I clear it up !

That’s the way; they have you well trained already! 👍 But … just have to say - what works one time may not necessarily work the next. Keep shifting the boundaries and you may just hit on the perfect solution.
