I was 5 steps out of my house on the way to work this morning when I came across a goldfinch that can't fly.
So now it's in a covered container in my room with a shallow dish of water and some seeds. I'll need to get some wild bird food though.

Well done for rescuing it. Are you going to look after the Goldfinch yourself? Caerphilly Bird rescue will take care of it if you can get it to them. www.facebook.com/caerphillybirdrescue/?locale=en_GBYou can drop of at their shop at 10 Clive St Caerphilly from 10 - 3pm or there is a drop of at Crossways Pub car park Caerphilly from 6 - 6.20pm.

I can't take it to them today. Bean and I are both in work (me until 6) and the car's kaput. Bean put in some wild bird seed. Not sure why over the other side of the box, but hey ho. The little guy moved during that though, so hopefully it's relaxing a bit after the shock of me jogging at it (because it was in the middle of the pavement) and then scooping it up. We'll see what happens. There were no obvious injuries but I might need to take a little look later. Gonna phone the vet too, seeing as I can't pass it to anyone else until tomorrow at the earliest.

I'll have to look when I get home. I told OH not to keep checking him because I wanted to avoid him getting stressed out.
Bored of being at work now, though, and want to go see how he's doing.

I hope he will be okay. I read that they eat insects too. I can just imagine you jumping about trying to catch some for him

He can catch those himself, Marianne Marlow! Or just eat the ones roaming my house. It can be pay for his lodging.

The little guy's now back in the wild where they belong! They did a fly around my room so it was clearly time to go.

Ah great. Hope he gets home safely. Did you notice him eat or drink? Odd question - what did his droppings look like? I only ever notice pigeon ones outside and they look like huge splats!! He would just go still when we were around, so no idea about drinking. The seed was certainly scattered about. He did a poop that had a big urate and the solid was of a similar consistency. I imagine it would have gone splat if it had fallen any height. Ah great. Hope he gets home safely. Did you notice him eat or drink? Odd question - what did his droppings look like?
