Yesterday, Chipper kept going to the kitchen, trying to land on the basil plants. I decided to see if he would land on me to get some basil. Eventually, with Max's help, he did

Good boy, Chipper! Congratulations to Max & Marianne on your great achievement. It's a thrill to get one to land on you, especially a budget who has rarely, or has never, done so

Thanks Chipper has never landed on me before. He's landed near me on seed pots when I am filling them up in the evening. I wonder if he'd do it again without being coaxed.

Now that he's discovered its 'safe', maybe landing on you will become a regular occurrence! If he does and stays on you for a visit, don't forget to check your shirt for budgie 'gifts'!

It's funny, he's been with us since he was 6 weeks old (an unusual occurrence to have such a young bird here), but he's always been a bit flighty around us.

Marianne Marlow Gwen's trio can be pretty flighty too, even though they're not scared of us. But those three seem to just be little pocket rockets. So nice that he was brave enough to come with some encouragement. Definitely worth keeping up offering him things! With Aster we found starting by offering things without asking anything in return worked to build up his confidence with approaching us for things. Stepping up was too aversive to him, so he just got rewarded for being brave enough to approach at all. OH did a lot of one-to-one work with him and now he's fairly quick to hop over for food, although he's not competitive so he leaves if someone else comes to steal his treat.
