Our female bird Piphans likes to rest and sleep on her mirror in the cage
She uses it like a bed where she lie sideways on it. Thats how she sleeps.
But the problem is when she poops while she sleeps there, then often the droppings gets stuck in her feathers around her rectum. And it looks messy. Her rectum isent blocked and looks fine after we clean her. Its only the feathers around it that seems to get messy sometimes.
Today we had to catch her and clean out some old and dry poops that where stuck. and clean her with a littel wet sponge.
Is this a normal thing for female budgies, that droppings often gets stuck. Even if she preens and cleans herself then it dosent look like she can get these droppings removed by her self.
She poops normaly and they dont look unnatural or any sign of sickness. Its only when sleeps in this position.
Do we need to help her and wash her butt ? Or do we just let her self clean it over time ?

I would clean her up when she needs it, possibly make it a routine for every morning and hopefully the job might not be too much of an ordeal for either of you if at least some of the poops aren’t hard and dry. If her vent did become blocked because of a poop build-up she could be in a lot of trouble.
It isn’t normal for poop to become stuck, but given that her poops are normal and she sleeps in an odd position will explain why her poops aren’t just dropping as they would normally. While she doesn’t look overly feathered like an exhibition type, you may be able to help her by trimming the feathers around her vent if you felt it wouldn’t bother her too much.

Allright. Wise words yes the problem is she sleeps in odd places and positions. Some days she sleeps normaly in her sling like other budgies do. Then her butt is clean and she have no problem with the droppings when she is out or sitting my finger

My boys always have poop sticking on their bum feathers in the morning, they just knock it off with a foot. I always know when they do it as the is a tiny kerplunk when it hits the bottom of the cage 😆 I though it was normal because they are pooping when asleep !
