Just curious. We have a large bag of safflower seed - safflower only; not a mix - for wild birds. Is there any reason that our pet birds (Budgies, Sun Conure, Cockatiels) should not eat some?

I'm no expert but I'd be concerned that there might be too much fat for budgies in safflower seeds. Wild bird seed is suitable for wild birds who generally burn up the calories as they are far more active than cage birds. Perhaps a sprinkling now and then would be OK? A more informed opinion may follow soon

I agree with loz, I would have thought it was a bit too fatty for budgies.

Safflower seeds are normally in a small parrot mix - the same that your cockatiel and sun conure eat. I’ve not seen a budgie eat them; they seem quite hard to me even though they are described as being thin-shelled. A sprinkling of them through the bigger parrots’ normal seed is acceptable, but since they are an oil seed I’d use them sparingly.
