Yesterday, my budgie laid an egg, but it fell out of its nest and broke. I cleaned the cage and separated her and her mate from the three other budgies they live with. I noticed that he bottom looks a bit off... seemingly swollen and red, but with white (probably) droppings around it. Should I be worried? Possible sign of egg binding? What should I do?

How old is this hen? Her age will have a lot to do with how well, and how quickly, she recovers from laying her egg. There is a short couple of years when a budgie hen should be allowed to breed - over 12 months but not over three years is the best time period for the health of the hen. Any older does increase the risk of egg binding. A good diet is also necessary. Also photos of her vent would be helpful as well.

How is she now?
Can you book a vet visit to have her checked out?
