When all of the Budgies and Cockatiels are loose in the bird room, Thunder will sometimes perch on this branch in the Cockatiel cage and sing to himself. Occasionally Griffin joins him over there.
Violet, the newest bird, has started to perch on this branch by the front of the Budgie cage, instead of always hiding in the back. We can also get our fingertips closer to her when holding millet.
Griffin's tail feathers are currently split:
Kona (male Cockatiel) and Willow (female Budgie) on the play stand.

I agree, Thunder is exceptional.
I wish I had a cockatiel but I wonder how one would cope with my gang.

I'd be more worried about Pikachu I agree, Thunder is exceptional. I wish I had a cockatiel but I wonder how one would cope with my gang.

I agree, Thunder is exceptional. I wish I had a cockatiel but I wonder how one would cope with my gang. I've had no problems with owning both - in fact, Kona and Willow often act like a mated pair. My Cockatiels and Budgies spend a few hours a day being loose in the bird room together. As with any flock, there is the occasional "get away from my treat" hiss or "I wanted that toy" peck, but nothing serious.
They do have separate cages, of course, so that each species can have their time to relax. Some say it's best for the Cockatiels to have a break from the energy of Budgies. (Our Sun Conure can only be loose in the bird room if myself or my husband is there. Or we take her to another room. She is more interested in visiting with us.)
Cockatiels have something of a reputation for being slow to trust their new owners. I've seen a few Internet posts by owners who were upset about not making progress after three or four months. If you do get one, don't give up! The slow-and-steady bond is worth it!

I don't mean to derail your lovely thread! If a cockatiel ten years of age or more came up, I'd be there. I could accommodate it As for being slow to trust ... that describes my kakariki. It's only in the last few months that she's become anything I could describe as tame and I've had her nearly three years.

loz silly question but why 10 years plus of age? Not silly at all. A cockatiel could be expect to live up to twenty-five years if well looked after in captivity. I'd be in my mid-eighties by then. I would feel awful acquiring a birb (or any pet) where there is an likelihood they'll outlive me.

(Sorry for the vague description; I am trying not to break any forum rules.)
