My lounge curtains are a few years old now, which means that the weave is a little tired. I know this because I have just had to cut poor Squeak out of them. She has not had a good time of it but I am hopeful she is unhurt.
Does anyone have any ideas for safe curtains for budgies, what to buy, where to buy them? I wish to avoid blinds if at all possible but if that is what I must use, I'll use them!

Thank you, skysmum! I've ordered a set of curtains & liners, hopefully arriving middle of next week. The neighbours will have to cope in the meantime! Squeak is subdued and I had to squirt Herman to stop him hassling her. She is perching normally on one foot and on two so I continue to be hopeful. I think she still has a tiny fragment of curtain clinging to one nail but I am leaving it for now as I don't want to prolong her trauma at this point. It's possible it will drop off or she'll chew it off soon anyway.

No problem, poor little mite and you, it’s horrible when stuff like that happens but short of having eyes in the back of your head what do you do 🥴

If a calamity will happen to a budgie, it will be Squeak. That's all I can predict. She got herself tangled in a coriander plant one time, fgs.
I will add curtains to the list of items to be regularly examined for possible wear & replacement. Sigh.

Oh poor Squeak and your poor nerves.
Same happened to one of my hens quite a few years ago, I had to hold on to her and snip the cotton with scissors as it happened when I was the only one in the flat.
This is why I now twist my curtains to stop hens getting in them.

This is why I now twist my curtains to stop hens getting in them. I might try twisting my new ones. It should make them less attractive to the hens. I feel like I feel after I've come off my motorcycle. Same feelings, bruised and achy!

This is why I only have curtains in the bedroom, but I've always had the luxury of being up off of the ground floor. If I needed anything I'd probably get wooden slat blinds like my housemates have downstairs.

She seems fine, skysmum. I think she's my toughest little bird! There's still a tiny scrap of fabric on her rearmost claw but it is so small, the downsides of trying to remove it outweigh the practically-zero chance she'll have a problem with it. It will fall off soon enough, I feel. STOP PRESS: I just had a sneaky look, tricky as I don't wish to spook her. The scrap is still there. She's watching me suspiciously now.

That's a relief, and breath, until she gets into something else that is I'm sure it will sort itself out, maybe when she has a bath it will wash it away. These girls certainly keep us on our toes

Boba is the first hen spotted scaling the new curtains. No difficulties encountered but it's early days yet.
