I was in my teaching room which is next to the lounge where the budgies were chattering away. Then I heard a clattering noise and all went quiet. I went into the lounge and they were all doing their best statue impressions and looking in the same direction. I talked to them but they stayed in statue mode. Then Rito got spooked and they all flew around the round calling in alarm and then settled back on top of the cage, looking in the same direction again. I followed their gaze to the mantelpiece and a little ornament had fallen over and then I saw the thermometer on the floor. Once I picked that up and put it on the table they recovered their senses and started singing.
Although it is possible that the thermometer spontaneously fell onto the floor I suspect it may have been encouraged to do so by a budgie mission to the mantelpiece. It's the only place in the room that they don't go but Rito has tried to land on it in the past, so he may be the culprit.
Silly budgies

Definitely sounding like a Rito bad manoeuvre. Lucky the thermometer didn’t break.

Hezz luckily the thermometer is very light so it made it to the floor safely.

Hezz luckily the thermometer is very light so it made it to the floor safely. The Galileo thermometer in my kitchen would not come off as lightly!

Rito had a mad flying about session this morning and flew very low over the mantelpiece so I imagine that's how the thermometer ended up on the floor. He wasn't trying to land as he was going to fast for that. He was just doing a very low fly past, maybe scoping it out as a future landing site.
