A poor starling had trapped itself inside the wire peanut feeder I use for their calciworms. It filled the whole feeder and was head first down into it. I saw it about 730am, so hopefully it hadn't been in their for too long. I looked it over while it was still in the feeder and there was no sign of blood so I lay the feeder down on top of the rabbit hutch and held the lid open while it walked itself out backwards on to the rabbit hutch and flew away. I have now put that feeder in a bag of recyclables for the tip and replaced it with one that has a clip on the lid.

I've been using that design of feeder for years and this is the first bird that's climbed inside. The feeder was empty before the starling climbed in so goodness knows what it was up to.

Maybe he is a regular visitor and was looking for what would normally be in the feeder, or the last few scraps left in the bottom?

Maybe you're right Hezz. I think he can't be the brightest starling in the flock though as it's a wire mesh feeder so should have been able to see there was nothing in it. Maybe be one of the others pushed him in or dared him to see if he could fit. The Starlings are very busy in the garden again after a lull when they got there nesting started. No sign of any fledglings yet. Then it gets reallly busy!
