Thanks for any help Hi Yes they are the same breed. Unfortunately they have been bred for size ect. Potency in most cases has taken a back seat in their development. They have difficulty in walking. flying & seeing due to excessive feathering. Especially those that are dumped onto the pet market. Yours B.J.

English budgies are bigger in size from wild budgies. They are bred for size, color and feathers and are very beautiful. They are called English budgies mainly because English breeders started to breed them that way. Here is a picture from Barrie. See the difference yourself. I like the Show Budgie (English Budgie).

Some of those `show Budgies` are ugly monstrosities and I wouldn`t give them aviary space. I have had birds since 1956 and I rung 94 Budgie chicks last year. So far I have rung 8 this season. Last year I produced some very nice Yellow-face Type 2 albinos which have a yellow suffusion all over them. I have 2 families and hope to put some together later when they are about 12 months old. A couple of my blue dominant pieds below. As with humans some are better parents than others.

*sigh* Well my two-pence is that while pet birds are cheeky, happy, healthy little things, I can see the appeal of show birds. If our pet birds had such magnificent heads... Once upon a time I frowned on all show-bred animals, and still protest loudly at inbreeding, but really it's down to personal preference. B.J. is right for the most part, but I think a lot of breeders are becoming more conscientious about breeding for health as well as looks. And who wants to breed a hen that will consistently be a bad mother, hmm?

I didn't mean to cause trouble just wanted to no if wot I was told was right so thanks for answering my question There is still a big divide between pet type and exhibition type people, at the end of the day it comes down to preference, so we should leave it at that.
