Hi everyone! My oldest hen, Tess, has just started nesting again (there are no eggs.) She is really protective of the nest and when another birds fly on top of it she will have a peck at them. Is there anyway to stop her from being so protective? Or how to stop other budgies from going near the nesting box? Thanks Nicola

I am afraid that the only way is caged breeding or making a partition within the aviary.

Ok, thanks. Last year we had a hen that attacked another budgie IN the nesting box. She pulled out ALL of his feathers on his head and he died during the night. Nicola

That sounds like colony breeding.

she is only doing what comes naturally Nicola , this is why seperate pair cage breeding has its values

I mean this can be expected in colony breeding.

Thanks everyone! I would separate them, but some people don't agree with it. I just don't want ANYTHING that happened to Cookie to happen again . It was my birthday as well as his that he died on. The scene was horrible! I put my hand in the nesting box after hearing noises in there, and when it got Cookie's head was COVERED in blood. Thanks again Nicola

You can separate the others if you don't want to remove the breeding pair.

you could always take the nest boxes away ... that would stop them fighting over them ... but then your budgies couldnt breed ...... or mabe add more nest boxes..... i havent seen your set up so dont no.... if theres room for more boxes... could you post pics please ...... so we can see what space they have..... ..
