Hi I've had this budgie nearly eight months now and thought it was a male when I got it but I am really not sure since he/she displays behaviours (such as nibbling), which I would associate with being female.. I have plenty more photos if that isn't clear enough, I just chose that one because it was so close up! Thanks all x

Hi daisyandtom I am no expert, but to me it looks like a female. If it was a male, the cere would be purple/pinkish. If it was a female, the cere would be white/blue. As this budgie is almost 1, to me it looks like it is starting to turn brown from the blue and white. Is the cere as light and plain in real life? Nicola

Thanks for the response Nicola I forgot to mention that I took this photo in January.. However, the cere looks the same now as it did then and I would say the colours in the photo are true to life.. I bought him/her from a pet shop on Aug 31st but not sure how old it was when I got it... I knew it wasn't an adult because of the cere colour and black eyes but I've never been 100% sure exactly how old it is. I will post a couple more and see if it's any clearer but I think you're probably correct:

Yes I agree, female. The nares have that slightly white look to them.
Is this a recessive or dominant pied (I find it hard to tell)

Recessive Pied but a back picture will confirm it.

Thank you so much everyone for your replies I'm guessing that's why my two squabble so much (the other is also female).. And thanks to those who said she's beautiful.. I think so too but I am probably biased I've just posted a picture of both my budgies on the Genetics and Colours thread to find out what they are.. I've only just got a decent digital camera so finally able to find out I've been wanting to know what Millie is for over a year!! They're just pets so not for breeding or anything but I am just curious!

I still think it is a female as everyone else said. The cere looks to dull to be a male Are you planning on breeding her? Nicola
