Hi again guys.
Started removing the hedge and trees required to build my Aviary (will post some pics at the weekend) and have been deliberating what the best floor for the outside flight would be.
Options I have pondered:
Cement, all round good stuff, easy to clean etc etc but quite costly and time consuming considering the 5metre x 3 metre flight.
Gravel - best gravel to use? not sure how easy this is to clean and what the best method for laying would be i.e. dig down 120mm foor floor base, layer of aggregate, strong fibre membrane over that then final layer of gravel. My question here would be best method of cleaning.
slabs - best method to lay, whether on dry cement/sand base or concreted in.
If I could get an all round objective view on the different methods I would be hugely grateful.
Many thanks
Arvon

i went for slabs ...and left a gully down one side..... so i could wash all the poo away.... plus theres a hole under the flight frame.... to let all the water and poo out.....i was going to fill the gully... with South Cerney .....but didnt in the end ....as its easyer to clean as it is ......its all layed on a slight slope..... so the water and poo...runs out of the flight when washing down ..... i hope this helps....

Is yours tiled, Mick? I like the idea of a channel to remove the run-off. I think - no, I know - if it were me, I would go straight for the concrete. From what I have read (may be different where you are of course) many aviary builders have tried all sorts of options but not been happy with them, with many then going back and concreting at a later date.

Anything non-absorbent and easy to clean/wash.

My outdoor flight was concreted then solid granite floor tiles were layed on top. The tiles were a bargain on ebay
