Hi everyone, I have a lovely baby hen who will be joining Kiwi 10 months in about 2 weeks. I am a bit confused on this maiting game though.. I don't want to breed them as she is only about 10 weeks and these are my first birds so not ready for motherhood yet lol. If there is no nest box will they still mate but just not produce eggs? Or will they not mate unless a nest box is there. Also do they just mate whenever, wherever they like or is it only certain times of the year? I have also read about hens in condition, can you please tell me what this means? Thanks for your help

they will bond , they may also mate, they may lay on the cage floor , this is nature at its best , the will to survive and reproduce.
BUT then they may not do any of these things
An adult budgerigars comes into breeding condition approx every 7 weeks , no nest box will deter breeding

As Barrie said they may mate and the hen may lay an occasional egg (very rare though) on cage floor but they will not breed without nest box.
