I know that some breeders do give their bugdies dried mealworms in their soft food!!!

they don't need it, it would not be part of their natural diet (and yes yes yes some brain box is going to say neither is half the supplements we feed, but a mealworm is not man made - most if not all the others arE) they would maybe touch the odd one in the wild, if they came across a similar insect, but it certainly wouldn't be a constant part, i like to think of budgies as seed eaters, and maybe even the odd leaf, shout or bud.

When moulting they need protein; you can get away with hard boiled egg and not have to deal with the wriggling variety of protein!

Dried mealworms soaked before feeding are a wonderful source of protein especially during breeding.

hi guys i agre totally with barrie i am at the moment feeding in my softfood a product called unipatee which is geared towards insect and fruit eating birds which i think is provideing two beneficial parts of a budgies diet and i know a lot of breeders are useing this hope this may help allan ps this product also contains shrimps ie protein
