Gorgeous, very fetching Marianne. I put one on when i do the aviary as im a bit wheezy, always check the neighbors aren't about first ;D best be safe. Do they not effect your chest normally, i mean when your in the room with them and interacting etc.

I think I need to start wearing a mask when I am cleaning out the aviary, they are creating a lot of dust lately especially with them moulting. I have the masks already, I just keep forgetting to use them lol.

I clean their cages and toys every night. I think I need to start wearing a mask when I am cleaning out the aviary, they are creating a lot of dust lately especially with them moulting. Wouldn't it be lovely if they weren't so dusty. Cats affect me terrible, my daughters have two each now they have their own places, they get a spray for them that reduces the dander, wonder if you can get it for birds

Very fetching Marianne! ;D
They are sooo dusty - I clean out the bottoms every night and hoover twice/three times a day - even this evening after I have hoovered it doesnt look like I have. Seed, dust, feathers everywhere!!! They blow into each and every corner. Just need a massive vacumn to be honest.
I am always sneezing and my partner is convinced it's becuase of my babies - whats a little sneezing between friends ;D

For those of you that do not know:
January 26th 2011 I was admitted to hospital. My oxygen saturation was 78% and I could not walk more than a few meters without having to sit down and gasp for breath.
I was on oxygen for 24 hours a day for 5 days in hospital and put on 60mg of steroids.
I have lung scarring that could probably be avoided by wearing a mask!

Was this brought on solely by the budgies Marianne, I've always been slightly asthmatic so i always have to wear a mask when cleaning the birds and the rabbit, my little JRT doesn't affect me but my daughters cats and Labrador do.

My consultants are adamant that it was. I am also allergic to pigeons (try avoiding those in London!) and grass pollen.

That's pretty scary and as you say something multiple budgie owners should be aware of, my wheezing was predominately the reason behind removing them from the house and having the aviary, it was that or give them up and that was not an option . Sorry to be nosy but if you were to stop keeping them would this go or is it something you are left with, i assume it is as its caused scaring.

Oh my godness Marianne - I had no idea! Wow - that is scary! In all seriousness I do have a box of paper masks and when I clean them is usually when I sneeze and wheeze. Wow wow - will deffo start wearing them then. Are you OK now or have you got lasting damage?

Nice one Marianne I use the same mask as in the link. They are pretty cheap. The only worry though that the whole house has one air-conditioning unit and birds share that. However I do leave a window open near cages even in very hot weather.
