Excuse my ignorance, Barrie, but is that for the just-out-of-the-nesters? Do you put an adult with them, or just all young ones?

Nappy Cages or Baby Flights are for recently weaned chicks until they are old enough to join adults in the main flight. Barrie's as good as it gets. Chicks are transferred when they are fully weaned so putting an adult is not required usually, unless otherwise.

So they are eating seed on their own then. And this is where they learn to fly?

Wow that's lovely, lucky bubs. You know until i joined this forum, head blows and nappy cages would have conjured up some whole other images, as Sarah said in another thread about head blows she thought someone had had a nasty accident sorry I've learned so much here.

So they are eating seed on their own then. And this is where they learn to fly? When they are 42 days old, they are already eating on their own. So they removed from the parents cages. Yes they learn to fly in these Nappy Cages or Baby Flights. Quite a show though

Oh, clumsy little baby flys. *Smooch, smooch.* I remember bringing Smudge home as a learner-flier. Took her out of her little cage in my hand, and all she could do was fly UP, up and up till she reached the ceiling, and then came down, down, down again but over the stair-well, so twice as far to glide down. She didn't so much crash-land as fluttered most ungraciously down to the bottom of the stairs!

I can imagine how cute it would have been. It's always a mixed feeling. I am laughing as well as worrying that they may hurt themselves.

Exactly, BB, rushing down the stairs to make sure she wasn't going to go "smack" into something, anything. But trying not to be rushing and spook her any more!

Thanks BB for your updates
If a baby go straight into the main flight they tend to fly their weight off , once they are approx 12 -14 weeks old the go into the main flight to build up some muscle
