hi all,i have budgies indoors at the momment.other half wants them outside in the aviary but i have a female sitting on eggs out there,am i right in thinking if i put the inside birds outside they would go in box and kill babys when they hatch,if so when would be the right time to put them outside, after the babys have left the nestbox.then i can remove the nestbox so no more breeding.

Firstly I must stress, I am not a breeder, China. But I would go with your way of thinking. Leave the status quo for now, and when the chicks are all independent and flighted, then move the others out. Why take the risk of introducing an unknown while you have the delicate situation of a hen on eggs? It won't be long, tell him he has to be patient.

Hello. Just like to remind you that as soon as the babies leave the box & before they are fully independent. The hen will be laying a second clutch of eggs. You make no mention of a cock being with her. If its going to cause family problems. I suggest you bring the sitting hen inside & the other birds back in the flight. Yours B.J.

It depends on the noise and how far is the hen. Any sudden and loud noise would disturb her. There is always a chance of damage to eggs when hen leaves the nest box in hurry. My hens used to leave the nest boxes as soon as I turned on the new 2500 watts vacuum cleaner but they got used to it after a few days. More birds are always a good idea

In that case I would keep them around as long as possible. Which would mean leaving the building till hen has raised her chicks, then do reno's, and then see how you feel. It would be too quiet for me now, not having birds inside.

In my experience Her Indoors overrules Other Halves in any matters pertaining to the...indoors. This would include budgies. ;D

He doesn't like their noise? ?? Tell him to man-up and take a cement-pill! I agree with Stace - you are the boss of the interior. Wonder how he would feel if we all gang up on him?
