On Monday and Tuesday we moved the budgies with their cage into the aviary for playtime....I brought them back in at night due to the cats in the area and we need to do a bit more work in the inside flight....we did not put them in on Wednesday as we were not home and I am glad we didn't as we found our quail Henry with blood on the side of his face and we are not sure what has happened.....
They will not go out today....no worries as they will have playtime in their room out of their cage.....but we have always had cats in our garden but now it seems that the cats have doubled in the last few weeks and I am not sure if it was a cat or Hilda that attacked Henry....our aviary is double meshed but I am now worried that they can get their paw through if they try hard enough....
So what would be the best to make the cats leave our garden.....we have thought of different things but is there something that is tried and tested that would work....

try poultry manure pellets from the garden centre,since i've been useing them on the boardersand shrub bed at the front of the house i don't get them scratting anymore,apparently they don't like the smell.

Thank you Ian.....we will give that a try.....  as the budgies do enjoy their outdoor time.....and the quails enjoy cleaning their mess..... |

Thank you to you both....but I am like a mother that has sent her children off for their first day of school....I miss not having them in the house flying here, there, and everywhere....

Old women here keeps cats away with 2 liter plastic coke bottles filled with water. Looks tacky, I hate it, but it works.
edit: checked why it worked and found that you fill them half way and the light shines and scares the cats away. If you go this route I'd suggest filling the bottles with bleach.

Awww its like sending them off to boarding school isn't it  . You are where i was about 6 years ago, my gang left home for the Aviary in the garden, all six of them, and it was very strange not having them in the house  . I still miss them now but don't miss the mess ;D and they are much happier too. |

Oh, no! ;D Even when I KNOW everything is okay, I still have to check out the quietness.  Like when I am the only one home, and haven't been through a door or opened anything .......... when quietness falls, I have to have a quick look ........ ....... ;D |

By the way, if you still need a cat deterrent - my OH told me of a guy he knew at work got hold of some tiger poo from their local zoo and put it in their garden - I know this may be difficult to get but what made me laugh is thinking what the domestic cat was thinking when he came across it...."what the HELL did that?! It was HUGE!!!!" ;D Does work though! |
