For the last two days.....Henry has been sitting on Hilda's eggs.....in the morning he comes out and has a quick breakfast and then runs back to the eggs.....which are out of sight and I have to play twister to see them.....at night when I go to put them to bed he will not come out of the box.....I can find nothing online about males sitting on eggs....so is this normal.....

I know nothing about quails, Kath. Maybe the bang on the head knocked a few wires loose! ;D What a sweet little guy though, doing all the hard work himself.

Its normal for the male quail to keep the eggs warm while the female gos to feed and poop. Well, it was normal for mine! He was on the eggs almost as much as the hen! The one thing...when the eggs hatched my male didn't know how to cope with the wee chicks and kept running them over and hurting them without meaning to. He had to be removed for a few days until the chicks got a bit stronger. Then he was replaced with the brood and continued happily:) So keep an eye out for stompy feet!

Henry and Hilda have again amazed me.....this morning I went out to feed them.....and neither of them came to greet me....and of course my heart sank as I thought something horrible had happened.....so on my hands and knees with the torch I went to see what had happened.....and what did I find but Hilda and Henry both sitting on the eggs.....since it is a cold day they both are sharing the task of keeping the eggs warm.....so hopefully in about 10 days we should hear the patter of little quail feet.....

Oh, how happy to hear a good-news story, Kath. That would be a terrrible feeling - I think we all get it at times. I hope we do get to see photos of widdle bubby quails soon.
