What fruit and veg in your opinion provides the best nutrients whilst breeding? And why?

What fruit and veg in your opinion provides the best nutrients whilst breeding? And why? Hi Without going into to much detail. Most fruit/veg contain different nutriments in varying amounts. So by giving you bird a wide choice. You almost guarantee your giving them a good variety of nutriments & tastes. Yours B.J.

I'd also like to know which are the best vegetables but for now Serz I'd say go with the ones they love. Mine get carrot, brocolli, cucumber, sweetcorn, and spinach. A few others too but these are their favourites

Hi If there was a veg that gave you all the nutrients ie,
vitamins & minerals. the body needed We wouldn't need
to keep telling newbies to provide a good variety of fruit/veg.
Several are high in one or two nutrients but if you only
supply these. Your birds will OD which will shorten there
lives anyway. Yours B.J.

Celery doesn't actually contain a great deal in the nutrient factor but is a good supply of celluose and also water content which the parents will need plenty of when feeding chicks. Spinach and kale fed in excess to any age budgie can be dangerous, but a small bit once a week is enough and very benificial. Carrot and sweetcorn full of vitamin A and the sweetcorn will help to put weight on the budgie chicks.I like to feed hawthorn berries for the vitamin C if they are in season. Its worth picking plenty of these and freezing them. They can be defrosted and fed all year round then. Blackberries and raspberries are other fruit that freeze well. Having said all this, I prefer to introduce the 'wet' veg when the chicks are leaving the nestbox around 4-6 weeks. The veg regurgitation can dirty around the nestbox and as its so warm in there gos off very quickly and the young chicks will lick any dirty walls.
