for rented property what are the usual conditions needed to put up a aviary in scotland, i presume letters would be sent out to all the neighbours by the council to see if they where ok with it. Would i be likely to be declined permission or should they're be no hassle with it, how long can it take to get the permissions etc. ?

I live in a local council house, it took about 6-8weeks to get permission. they send a letter to all the close neighbours. I said I'd be breeding as a hobby and not as a buisness. also tell them everything because it's not worth the risk of someone reporting you to the council and you end up losing the aviary and budgies!!

Ye true, im just worried that i go and tell them everything, and then they decline me permission. They don't currently know about the ones i have just now but i did ask my next-door neighbour first to make sure he was fine with it, and he said he was (you can't really here them anyway when they're in doors, but outdoors is a totally different problem)

they don't really need to know about the ones in the house! But you need to say what size aviary and shed that you want and why!!

Hi Ryan. From my experience every local council has different rules as to which pets you are allowed and as to how many. I live in a council flat but in the contract I can keep as many caged birds as I like, dogs, cats, in fact any amount and type of animal I like as long as the neighbours are ok with it. No permission needed but a good friendship with immediate neighbours is recommended! I am not allowed to breed any type of pet for trade but can breed pets if I'm not selling. Whereas 10 miles down the road my mate is in the same type of flat but is only allowed caged birds, reptiles and fish! No dogs, cats etc. Different council. Although my district council is very lenient as far as it comes to indoor pets they are not so when it comes to anything outdoors. We learned the hard way after our poxy 2 ft fence was vandalised and we put up a rigid fence of panels. The neighbours complained that the fence ruined their view of OUR GARDEN! and we were ordered to take it down lol! Alot of it seems to be down to the neighbours when it comes to outdoor stuff with council houses. I have a few friends in council propery who have zoos in their gardens, but it would be awful to go through the expense and excitement of putting up an aviary only to have it taken down again so its well worth going through all the processes. Good luck to you Ryan:) I really hope you can get permission:)

thanks Nat, Mick . Our council is a bit strict, they do allow dogs/cats but only 1 although we did ask if we could get another for company and they granted it, so they are reasonable.
