Wondering if anyone could give some advice on one of my quails. Its a chinese painted quail and is about 3-4 months old now. All was fine on friday then today when i went to feed them (they live at my work) and as normal all freaked when i opened the door and went in but i soon noticed one wouldnt stand propperly. so picked her up and had the animal manager look at her and she has no visable injurys, feather good, bright eyed and alert, breathing normaly, good weight, legs look normal and feel normal, vent clean. but when i put her back on the floor she took a few steps then fell over then just kept falling over for a bit then got up and walked a bit then started falling over again. she is falling both left and right and backwards and at one point was laying on her side moving her legs but got back up again. The exotic vets is only in the area monday mornings so he had allready left when i found her. Been looking online and cant seem to find any diease that just has falling over the ones that have it as a simptom also have other things like breathing problems ect. Im wondering if she could have hit her head and has some neurigacal injury from that. Has anyone ever had anyting like this? Id hate to have her putdown if its just something simple but will do if its something that cant be fixed as i dont think she will have a good quality of life.

Was thinking the same thing, Mick. Is she able to eat, PP? I hope she is able to recover to some extent, and doesn't need to be put down.

How sad. RIP little quail. Hopefully it was not a disease.

Sorry its a late comment, but we have had this in a couple of ours a few years ago and i gave them calcivet, as they were lacking in calcium even though the hens were still laying eggs ok.i think the constant laying was taking the calcium out the body. As the others say though, it could have been a stroke. sue
