Been there done that, with the budgie bub in the seed pots. The first time scared the pants off me as I couldn't find her! I was looking at perches and around the sides - didn't know I had to check the seed pots too! If you use something like packing tape, you don't have to replace the tape every time you need to blow out and top up seed. I ended up getting a different type of seed pot when it seemed she was never going to stop - so then she took to hiding UNDER the seed pot! (So I still couldn't find her!) PS The smaller cage is fine for one budgie.

Sounds like you are doing great Liz! Glad you are finding our site helpful Another tip is to get a cage that is wide (not necessarily tall) as your bird flies across and not up so the wider the cage the better

Either of those Hagen cages are great. If you can afford it, I'd always go for the bigger cage (more room for your budgie or if you want to add a friend later), but the smaller one is fine too. The Zooplus ones seem to be on sale too, plus there's 10% off for a first purchase I think.

That's great, Liz! As I mentioned the biggest you can afford in space and cash is my advice. It gives you more room to put some interesting toys around for him too. With the toys, perches food and water etc. Try to put your perches as far apart as possible - exercise for Winnie - but make sure that he still has room away from the sides of the cage, enough for him to turn around easily and so that his tail isn't jammed up against the side of the cage. Fit the toys around the sides of the cage, rather than in the middle, again for exercise - toys in the middle impede him flying across from perch to perch. Seed and water pots placed close to a perch for easy access and check that neither are directly under a higher perch or they will become contaminated. If they are placed close to the highest perches, you don't have that worry. Just some quick cage set-up tips while I think of them.

just purchased the bigger one of the two at zoo plus also looked at the pics on there of others who have brought it (i recognised a lil budgie on this forum posing in the new cage) i also got another wooden perch and a rope one two as for some of the toys i have they r a bit of a muti plastic nightmare. he seems to sleep on the plastic swing at night (it has a mirror on it ) instead of the perches so may need a re think of the cage set up . i will post a pic for ppl to comment when it arrives to get the right spacing etc p.s. i love bird shopping lol

As I see you have now ordered a cage I will hold off on that one however bigger is better I can recommend this site the people who run it are brilliant and I always get my orders the day after, I got one order less than 24hours later! Very helpful if something goes wrong or you need to ask questions: scarlettsparrotessentials.co.uk/I have shopped with Zooplus for over 3 years and would have recommended them however after my last couple of experiences with how my items arrived I was wary and after the way I was treated with my last order I will never use them again nor will I recommend them to anyone, their customer service is diabolical.
