This is a fantastic cage. It's really great to see new budgie owners thinking about getting their home right from the start. A+
Somewhere on the forum there is advice on safe toys. You should read through that as well. Things like, making sure they can't get their toes caught in loose rope thread, or long bits of chain or ties they could strangle themselves with, dangerous metals etc.
Unfortunately many many stores sell unsafe toys.

It's looking good Liz. Give Winnie and yourself time, and you can tweak it to suit you both. Your next thing to think about is a play gym or tree that will give her somewhere that is hers when she is out flying around. It is still early days for you both, but just in case you thought you were nearly finished .............. we always have more!

Hey good cage choice Liz, nice amount of room in there! As for toys, give Winnie chance to settle then introduce one at a time gradually. And agree with Hezz about a play gym too You can never have enough toys!

Newspaper over the grate makes clean-up a whole heap easier. Just change the sheet every day - makes a great way to moniter Winnie's droppings too. If you leave the grate open after a week come cleaning house day, the poop can stick like you know what! Much easier to use old newspaper and remove every day. And as I said, gives you the opportunity to moniter any changes in Winnie's poop.

Liz, you may have figured this out already, but if you put 7 or more newspaper sheets down at a time, you can just remove one every day or every other day. Makes things much easier.

Moogie: Sounds like the perch is being made as we are "speaking".
Liz there are threads in this and the "toys and enrichment" section to give you heaps of ideas. Winnie will need something soft and chewable to pull apart. If you have access to some eucalypt bark, small twigs/branches etc, these are the best. Willow is apparently good too, as the budgies can pull the bark off these too. They are constantly looking for things to use their beak son (and this is the reason for your other question on Winnie's "biting" everything in his cage. The more good stuff you provide for his beak and feet, the less worry in the future.
