Hello! I'm new to the forum, having bought my first budgie yesterday. I have owned finches for about a year and a half, so I'm not totally new to keeping birds, but I wanted one that I could interact with more. Here's a picture: He's been very wary and nervous, but I know that that is to be expected. I haven't decided on a name yet. With his blue-gray color I keep thinking of Stormy, but I would like something a bit more sophisticated than that. Thanks, I look forward to being a part of this forum!

Welcome windward and baby budgie. You could call her Tempest.

Thanks everyone! So he's a she! I had sensed that she was female, but I thought that the blue tint to her cere indicated possibly male. She's young obviously, so it's hard for me to tell, inexperienced as I am. Here's a much clearer picture I was just able to take: I believe she is mauve? Thanks again

Hi and welcome to the forum Yep your little budgie is definitely a female. You can tell this by the white rings around the nostrils, males have a more purpley blue cere and no white

Thanks again A Mauve budgie will have violet cheek patches. Also the main tail feathers would be navy blue. I think your budgie is Grey

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! She's moving around a lot this morning, in an exploratory way, not panicked! I was even able to stroke her breast for a few moments before she (calmly) moved away. I'm so pleased with her progress already! I bought her from a small pet store which claimed they finger-tamed her (I wasn't so sure about how well they did it or what method they used) but it seems that she's settling in quite well and becoming more comfortable with me. I'm so happy!
